I’m excited to be teaming up with Eden Fantasys and offering commentary on their site a few times a month. Don’t be alarmed! I won’t be reviewing sex toys–unless something really really catches my fancy! But I will be letting you know about all the cool things offered on the Eden Fantasys website. There are forums where you can read about products, sex and politics, sexual health, and a ton of other things! There’s Sexis magazine that explores–what else!–sex! I’m excited about the photography group!

Do the sex lives of today’s politicians matter when you step into the voting booth? Do you care about their sex lives? Do they deserve their privacy?

This was the question I found while exploring the  EdenFantasys Sex and Politics forum.

My immediate reaction was: Eric Wiener. Kelly and I had just been talking about him last week. I say he’s done with politics because his sex scandal was so damn juvenile. Sending texts with pictures of your junk is something a teenage boy does, not a grown politician. Honestly, do you want someone who shows such poor judgement having a hand in any political pot?!

Then I thought about John Edwards. The man is on trial for election improprieties, most of which were to cover up his affair with a film maker. The golden boy of politics stepped out on his ill wife and fathered a child with another woman. Oops…not ever getting my vote.

Sex stories and politicians seem to go hand-in-hand. We live in a very voyeuristic society and nothing grabs the medias’ attention faster than sex. Who’s sleeping with whom? Who’s hiring prostitutes? Who’s cheating?

I think it says more about us when the media grabs on to a politician’s sexual antics than their actual politics. It really is true: sex sells.

Where do you draw the line? What sex scandal would cause you to never vote for that politician no matter what?

I’ll call myself traditionally open. What happens in private can stay there. But if you’re caught cheating, man up and admit it. If you continue denying the charges and then have to change your story, you’ve lost my respect. If you’re cheating on a sick wife, vote lost. If you’re messing with anyone underage, vote lost. If you’re caught doing something that you’ve condemned and preached against, vote lost.

All of this makes me wonder: why are there no women politicians involved in sex scandals? Are women more in  control of their sex lives? Are they more discreet? Thoughts? I’d love to hear them!

Every March 8 is International Women’s Day. According to the wikipedia article, International Women’s Day:

ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political and social achievements. Started as a Socialist political event, the holiday blended in the culture of many countries, primarily Eastern EuropeRussia, and the former Soviet bloc. In many regions, the day lost its political flavour, and became simply an occasion for men to express their love for women in a way somewhat similar to a mixture of Mother’s Dayand St Valentine’s Day. In other regions, however, the original political and human rights theme designated by the United Nations runs strong, and political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner.

If there ever was a time when we need to celebrate being a woman, it is definitely right now. Because the people who matter (i.e., elected officials) aren’t loving us at all! They are worming their way into our wombs, trying to politicize our very beings. And we can’t let them!

It’s always seemed to me that women have a very hard time supporting other women. Perhaps it’s because we’ve been in competition with each other since birth. Seriously, you don’t agree?! Who’s the prettiest? Who’s the smartest? Who has the best boyfriend? Who is the prom queen? Who married the best man? Who has the most perfect children?

Let’s stop being in competition and join forces. By banding together–despite our religious and political beliefs–we can make this world a better place. By starting in our very own neighborhoods, towns, states, country we can make the world better for all women.

We are women…

  • some of us love men, some of us love women
  • some of us are married, some of us have chosen to stay single
  • some of us have children, some of us don’t have children
  • some of us are educated, some of us have common sense
  • some of us are considered beautiful by contemporary standards, all of us are beautiful in our own ways
  • some of us are religious, some of us are spiritual, some of us do not believe in a supreme being

What we all are is…

  • We are loving, compassionate beings.
  • We are giving and generous with our actions and our time.
  • We are tender and merciful.
  • We are capable of looking at the big picture and seeing a single action can affect an entire family…community…nation.
  • We understand that coming from a place of love is often better than coming from a place of aggression.
  • We know that asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength.

We recognize that we need to make the world a better place for our daughters and our sons. Making things better doesn’t mean taking away rights or judging people. Things will be better when women are no longer considered minorities in our governing bodies. When women control as much of the world’s wealth as men do, things will be better. When women band together and tell the men to get their politics out of our bodies, the world will be better.

Let’s make a vow to stick together. We are no longer competing–we are all smart, beautiful, wonderful beings–we are one strong community setting out to make the world a better place. We can do it…we are women…

While exploring the Eden Fantasys forums, I found a thread about Playboy. What do you think about posing for the magazine? There’s even a poll, if you’d like to weigh in, here’s the link. The choices are: “For it/ and would did it if I had the chance, For it/ would not do it though, Not for it but wont hate you if you pose for them, If you pose for them you are helping to [destroy] our morals.”

I don’t really have strong opinions about Playboy. To me it seems pretty harmless. Women pose semi-naked, get paid, and men look. I don’t think the women are coerced into posing. And I pretty much think “Playboy” and “baby doll nightie and pearls” for some reason.

It’s been a lot of years since I’ve even seen the cover of a Playboy magazine or any other porn. I do get curious when a celebrity gets nekkid. Yes, I wanted to see Lindsay Lohan. Not enough to actually pay for the magazine. But if I ran across it on someone’s coffee table, I would have looked.

But my first thoughts these days when I hear about the magazine is the mental picture of Hugh Hefner sitting on a sectional sofa, wearing a satin smoking jacket and ascot, surrounding by buxom blondes. That pretty much kills any association of Playboy and sex for me. I’m not into wrinkled old men in ascots nor buxom blondes.

Actually, I don’t even know if Hefner wears an ascot, but it’s burned into my mind so it must be true. Right?

I definitely don’t agree with the fourth choice. Posing naked in Playboy magazine is not helping destroy morals. It takes a lot more than a semi-nude picture in a magazine to do that.

If I had to pick something in our society that is destroying morals, I would pick politics–from all sides. But that’s best saved for another day…

What do you think? Would you pose if asked? Or do you think Playboy is supporting moral decay in 0ur society?

PS. I ordered from Eden Fantasys for Valentine’s Day and my order was delivered promptly. In fact, I couldn’t believe how quickly it went from the click of the enter key on my end, to getting an order confirmation, to getting the delivery! Go ahead, try it for yourself!

Are you ready for Valentine’s Day? Do you think of it as just another day of the year?

Maybe you’re married and romance isn’t an actual priority since you have a house full of kids. Spontaneity is gone. You’re tired. He’s tired. There’s a new episode of Justified on…

I don’t want flowers (aka cat food). I don’t want chocolate–I mean I eat it all the time so it wouldn’t be special. Unless I got some Cora Lee toffee…that would be very very special.

You know what else would be special? Checking out Eden Fantasys website for some fun ideas.

How about some new lingerie? They have some super cute things! From coy to overt, you decide what message you want to send! (They even carry plus-size lingerie!)

Get on over to Eden Fantasys and do something to make this Valentine’s Day more special than any in the recent past. Surprise your partner–and yourself!– with something special. Or naughty. Or both…

Just in time for the big day of love, Eden Fantasys is having a sale! The more you buy, the more you save!

How timely! I used a trip to Walmart and a trek through the aisles that happened to contain the condoms as a teaching moment this week. I won’t put the details here because my son will wither and die of embarrassment if he thinks anyone hears this story. Then I came across this post in the Eden Fantasys forums: Should condoms be made available at schools?

What a brilliant idea!

My stance with the twins was: having sex? Wear a condom. I will buy them for you if needed. But, if you are to embarrassed to buy a condom in public, you might not be ready to have sex.

But wouldn’t it be nice if my sons and your daughters had access to condoms whenever they needed them? I’d hate to think that someone got sick or pregnant because they were too embarrassed to ask for money or condoms. Lord knows, teenagers are not exactly logical creatures! Plus, if the problem is lack of funds, I should point out that you don’t need money to have sex.

Read the comments on the forum and you’ll find the there are people who point out that providing free condoms is akin to condoning sex with anyone and everyone. Is it really? Remembering my adolescence, finding free condoms would have created an urge to make obscene balloon animals rather than hunting down a boy so I could have sex with him. Kids who aren’t having sex or thinking about sex aren’t going to be swayed or forced to have sex because free condoms are available.

It’s the kids who are having sex or considering sex who should have access to condoms. Shouldn’t we–as knowledgeable adults–do what we can to provide teenagers with a way to remain disease and pregnancy free? It’s clear that teens have sex. No matter how much parents might lecture/discuss the benefits of abstinence, teens are ruled by hormones, egocentricity, and immortality. Instead of fighting that, we should accept it and help them make informed decisions.

Providing condoms in bathrooms at a high school would help so many teens. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather deal with someone who was having responsible sex than deal with an STD or an unplanned pregnancy.

I’ve got to go now and buy a box of condoms for the boys’ bathroom. I don’t know what I didn’t think of that before…
