I was given an advance copy of Accidental Boyfriend in exchange for this review. All opinions are my own as are any mistakes! Read to the end for details about the giveaway!
Accidental Boyfriend by Robin Bielman is a fun romance. Tossed together to fool Kagan’s father’s choice for his daughter, Kagan and Shane certainly have some fun. There’s camping, kayaking, cooking, and movie watching. Both these characters are fun to read about. Yes, they are a little perfect…but not syrupy. That really does make a difference. The setting of Cascade is picture-perfect and made me want to live there!
All sex is off-page, but there is some making out and fantasizing. Nothing too hard core, though.
This is a definite fun read. Kept me turning pages and enjoying myself. Can’t ask for anything more!
Kagan Owens has a secret. One she thought she’d escaped by leaving New York, but when her past follows her to her temporary new life, Kagan lets a teeny lie slip. And now the town’s biggest playboy and flirt, Shane Sullivan, has become her pretend boyfriend–just until she’s ready to return to NYC. But the handsome, fun-loving Shane makes it tough to determine where their friendly agreement begins and ends…
Shane has no intention of settling down–in fact, his job depends on it, and nothing’s more important than his work. Still, he can’t help but agree to Kagan’s scheme, if only to find out more about the mysterious beauty. But when every touch from her sets his heart and body on fire, he realizes playing an accidental boyfriend may be more than he bargained for–and more than he can give.
About the author:

She’s a lover of Post-it notes, cable television shows and café mochas. Writing is a dream come true, and she still pinches herself to be sure it’s real.

I was given a $25 gift card from Ross Dress for Less to write this post. All opinions and words are my own. Any misinformation is mine.
Information on the giveaway is at the end of this post!
It’s back to school time, people! It caught me by surprise, too. Need a great place to shop for school clothes, shoes, back packs, purses, and home goods at great prices? All under one roof!? Then you need to get to Ross Dress for Less.
Right now Ross has a contest on their facebook page–their Back To School Fashion Face Off. It’s in the final round right now, but through September 6, 2013, you can vote for your favorite outfit. One lucky voter will win a Ross Dress for Less gift card for $125! Check it out and vote! The outfits are really cute!
I visited my local Ross Dress for Less in Bloomingdale, Illinois (Bloomingdale Court, 350 W Army Trail Rd., Bloomingdale, IL 60108, 630-351-1218) prepared to get a new purse. Then I was overwhelmed by the purse selection. I’m not allowed to name names, but I was in awe of some of the designers whose purses were hanging on those racks. And the colors! They are so pretty! Purses of every color, size, and material–honestly anything you might be looking for!
I wandered through the clothing section and they had a nice selection of plus-sized clothes. There were some really pretty dresses that made me wish–yet again–that I had places to wear pretty dresses.
I ended up spending my gift card in housewares. I had my eye on a gorgeous blue bowl. Then talked myself out of it, because I’m trying to move less things to dust and that went right against those plans. But it was sooo pretty! I’ve been pondering going back and getting it. Wonder if it’s still there?
I needed new measuring spoons. Who the heck loses their tablespoon measuring device? Well, someone in KlineLand did! So I got a nice, new sturdy set of measuring spoons. Name brand, of course. I’ve seen these in department stores costing way more than I paid.
Then I got a set of melamine mixing bowls. I never seem to have the right size of bowl, so this took care of that dilemma. I can whip up a cake, some cucumber salad, and some salsa from our overflowing tomato stash–and have the perfect bowl for every recipe!
My final purchase was a holder for the spare toilet paper rolls in the powder room. We always have a few extras sitting around and this little thing will corral them. Every once in awhile a roll gets dropped into the toilet and is wasted. This will, hopefully, put an end to that!
I was so happy when I got home with my treasures! Now, enter the giveaway and get to your local Ross Dress for Less so you can get some treasures of your own. Let me know what you get!

Let’s do a giveaway! Next week is my birthday! Thanks for asking, I’ll be 29! (Again…uh hum!) And it’s Mother’s Day!
I absolutely love sample boxes of products, don’t you? I’ve done several different types (health & beauty and fiber) and it’s such a thrill getting that box in the mail and tearing it open. I love seeing new products and old favorites.
The Conscious Box is especially wonderful because:
While Conscious Box strongly supports organic agriculture, not all products will be organic certified. This is because not all companies and the farms they work with have the resources to secure a certification. Fear not! Conscious Box has always discussed the ins and outs of trade, manufacturing, and production for each product we include. We hold our businesses to the highest standards, and only work with those who show true commitment to a healthy environment and ethical business practices.
Isn’t that wonderful? The Conscious Box brings us goodies from big and little companies. It’s a nice way for the smaller, family-owned conscientious businesses to get some of their products into our hands.
I like the idea of the Conscious Box bringing me natural, wholesome products each month. Like you, I’m constantly looking for things that are the best for myself and my family. I don’t want to fill our lives with unnecessary chemicals and unnecessary ingredients. The Conscious Box will give me a heads up on some of the products that just might work for all of us! There are even vegan and gluten-free options available. This way you won’t get items you can’t use!
How does the Conscious Box work? You can choose your own subscription length: by the month, quarter, half-year, and year. Each month the box is shipped (you’ll be notified and given a tracking number) and when your goodies arrive it will be like your birthday! Or Christmas! Or…well, you get the picture. Each month is $19.95, with discounts given for multi-month subscriptions.
What happens if you find something you really like? You can order it directly from Conscious Box. There’s even an opportunity for you to review products. I love sharing my opinion, how about you?
Please like Conscious Box on Facebook so you can stay in touch with this great company.
This giveaway is open to residents of the United States only. Please comment below to be entered to win until noon, May 12th, 2013, and will be announced on Monday, May 13, 2013. Good luck!
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Aveeno. All opinions are 100% mine.
Since it’s National Oatmeal Day and Aveeno uses oatmeal in a lot of it’s products, I am giving away two packs of Aveeno products! Details for entering are at the end of the post!
I love oatmeal! In fact, I participated in a lively discussion on a mutual love of oatmeal on Facebook recently. Now I can enjoy my oatmeal and remember high school friends fondly as I do!
I love to eat my oatmeal with frozen blueberries, a splash of milk, and a dash of sugar. I don’t use instant oats, but I do cook them in the microwave. In addition to now thinking of high school friends, I also remember my Gramma Pfannenstiel who made us oatmeal when we stayed overnight. That steamy goodness sweeps me right back into her kitchen.
With my incredibly problem-prone skin, I appreciate the oatmeal in Aveeno products. It’s soothing and helps out tremendously. I’m so glad the Aveeno people thought about using oatmeal in their products!
How much do you love oatmeal? Any recipes to share? Has anyone tried cold oatmeal? I saw some recipes on Pinterest over the summer that had promise, but I never tried them!
Want to win a package of Aveeno products that utilize oatmeal? Comment below before Friday, November 2, 2012, at 5 pm to be entered into the drawing. I’ll draw two winners at that time! Sorry, the giveaway is open to residents of the United States and Canada only.
Annie won the copy of Beautiful Beasties. I hope she gets some great tips for taking photos of her cat!
Eve won the $50 gift card from Dominick’s Culinary Challenge for her tweet about Greek olive oil. Maybe she’ll share a recipe with us using that olive oil!
Congratulations to both ladies!
This is a sponsored post, written by me, on behalf of Dominick’s. I was given a $50 gift card to purchase the ingredients needed for this meal. I also have a $50 gift card to give away. Details for entering at the end of this post! All opinions are 100% mine!
I’m so excited about this fun opportunity to partner with Dominick’s again. This time, I was sent a list of ingredients and had to prepare a meal around them. Luckily, I got the things needed for an Italian meal. I swear, I’m part Italian somewhere down the line because I can make a mean pasta dish!
Here are the ingredients I was given: Dell’ Alpe Imported Canned Pear Tomatoes and Dell’ Alpe Parmesan Cheese.
I added additional ingredients, purchased at Dominick’s: chicken breast tenderloins, mushrooms, pasta, giardienera, and fresh basil. From my pantry I used minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
The pear tomatoes come out of the can whole in juice. I used a knife to chop them up some and them used the tongs to squish them in the pan.
I sauteed the chicken tenderloins in a little olive oil.
I added the mushrooms and let cook a few minutes more.
I added the tomatoes.
I added a spoon full of minced garlic.
I tore up a few fresh basil leaves.
It simmered while the water cooked to a boil and the noodles cooked. Then we poured some over penne pasta and mangia! This was sooooo good! Don’t you want some?!
Here’s how you can win your own $50 Dominick’s gift card. Tweet your favorite international ingredient, using the #DominicksIntl hashtag and mention @Dominicks and @SusieKline! Tweet before Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at 5pm CST to be eligible!
Pets are wonderful companions, but are so very difficult to photograph well. Luckily, Jamie Pflughoeft has written Beautiful Beasties: A Creative Guide to Modern Pet Photography to help us out!
Not only is the book filled with great tips on capturing our furry friends’ personalities on film, there are also great photos illustrating the techniques. I could spend hours just checking out the images!
Pflughoeft does a nice job covering photography in general. She has chapters on equipment (did you know you can rent lenses before you invest the money in buying them?!) and photography basics. I found the photography basics extremely helpful. I can never read information about ISO and aperture enough! Her writing style is low key and direct, so taking in the information is quite easy.
There is a chapter on composition, which is something I also cannot read often enough. Why do I always forget the rule of thirds?!
Beautiful Beasties goes in to great detail about the perils and joys of working with animals. The end of the book offers advice about starting your own pet photography business. But it is so much more than that if you are the owner of an animal. This book offers a way to capture our fur babies in the best way possible.
About the author (taken from the back cover)
Jamie Pflughoeft became addicted to photographing pets while studying animal behavior in college and working as a dog-walker and pet-sitter. She started Cowbelly Pet Photography in 2003, and today she serves commercial, editorial, and private clients as well as teaching photographers around the world about the exciting field of pet photography. Jamie also runs the Beautiful Beasties Network, an online community for pet photographers.
Would you like a chance to win a copy of this book for your very own? Leave a comment below before 5pm Sunday, September 30, 2012, answering one (or both!) of these questions:
- What is your biggest challenge when photographing your pets?
- What would you most like to learn from this book?
The giveaway is open to residents of the United States and Canada only. A winner will be announced Monday, October 1, 2012, and will be drawn using random.org.
