This is a promotional post for Conscious Box. All opinions are my own. Any misinformation is also mine! I will be receiving a Conscious Box for posting and one will be provided to one reader who will be selected from commenters to this post. The deadline for entering is noon on May 12, 2013. The winner will be announced on May 13, 2013. For complete information about entering, please read through to the bottom of the post. Good luck!

Visit Conscious Box for more information!

Let’s do a giveaway! Next week is my birthday! Thanks for asking, I’ll be 29! (Again…uh hum!) And it’s Mother’s Day!

I absolutely love sample boxes of products, don’t you? I’ve done several different types (health & beauty and fiber) and it’s such a thrill getting that box in the mail and tearing it open. I love seeing new products and old favorites.

The Conscious Box is especially wonderful because:

While Conscious Box strongly supports organic agriculture, not all products will be organic certified. This is because not all companies and the farms they work with have the resources to secure a certification. Fear not! Conscious Box has always discussed the ins and outs of trade, manufacturing, and production for each product we include. We hold our businesses to the highest standards, and only work with those who show true commitment to a healthy environment and ethical business practices.

Isn’t that wonderful? The Conscious Box brings us goodies from big and little companies. It’s a nice way for the smaller, family-owned conscientious businesses to get some of their products into our hands.

I like the idea of the Conscious Box bringing me natural, wholesome products each month. Like you, I’m constantly looking for things that are the best for myself and my family. I don’t want to fill our lives with unnecessary chemicals and unnecessary ingredients. The Conscious Box will give me a heads up on some of the products that just might work for all of us! There are even vegan and gluten-free options available. This way you won’t get items you can’t use!

How does the Conscious Box work? You can choose your own subscription length: by the month, quarter, half-year, and year. Each month the box is shipped (you’ll be notified and given a tracking number) and when your goodies arrive it will be like your birthday! Or Christmas! Or…well, you get the picture. Each month is $19.95, with discounts given for multi-month subscriptions.

What happens if you find something you really like? You can order it directly from Conscious Box. There’s even an opportunity for you to review products. I love sharing my opinion, how about you?

Please like Conscious Box on Facebook so you can stay in touch with this great company.

This giveaway is open to residents of the United States only. Please comment below to be entered to win until noon, May 12th, 2013, and will be announced on Monday, May 13, 2013. Good luck!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Aveeno. All opinions are 100% mine.

Look at all the ways oatmeal can be used!

Since it’s National Oatmeal Day and Aveeno uses oatmeal in a lot of it’s products, I am giving away two packs of Aveeno products! Details for entering are at the end of the post!

I love oatmeal! In fact, I participated in a lively discussion on a mutual love of oatmeal on Facebook recently. Now I can enjoy my oatmeal and remember high school friends fondly as I do!

I love to eat my oatmeal with frozen blueberries, a splash of milk, and a dash of sugar. I don’t use instant oats, but I do cook them in the microwave. In addition to now thinking of high school friends, I also remember my Gramma Pfannenstiel who made us oatmeal when we stayed overnight. That steamy goodness sweeps me right back into her kitchen.

With my incredibly problem-prone skin, I appreciate the oatmeal in Aveeno products. It’s soothing and helps out tremendously. I’m so glad the Aveeno people thought about using oatmeal in their products!

How much do you love oatmeal? Any recipes to share? Has anyone tried cold oatmeal? I saw some recipes on Pinterest over the summer that had promise, but I never tried them!

Want to win a package of Aveeno products that utilize oatmeal? Comment below before Friday, November 2, 2012, at 5 pm to be entered into the drawing. I’ll draw two winners at that time! Sorry, the giveaway is open to residents of the United States and Canada only.

I have forgotten to announce the winners of the last two contests I held!

Annie won the copy of Beautiful Beasties. I hope she gets some great tips for taking photos of her cat!

Eve won the $50 gift card from Dominick’s Culinary Challenge for her tweet about Greek olive oil. Maybe she’ll share a recipe with us using that olive oil!

Congratulations to both ladies!

This is a sponsored post, written by me, on behalf of Dominick’s. I was given a $50 gift card to purchase the ingredients needed for this meal. I also have a $50 gift card to give away. Details for entering at the end of this post! All opinions are 100% mine!

I’m so excited about this fun opportunity to partner with Dominick’s again. This time, I was sent a list of ingredients and had to prepare a meal around them. Luckily, I got the things needed for an Italian meal. I swear, I’m part Italian somewhere down the line because I can make a mean pasta dish!

Here are the ingredients I was given: Dell’ Alpe Imported Canned Pear Tomatoes and Dell’ Alpe Parmesan Cheese.

I added additional ingredients, purchased at Dominick’s: chicken breast tenderloins, mushrooms, pasta, giardienera, and fresh basil. From my pantry I used minced garlic, salt, and pepper.

The pear tomatoes come out of the can whole in juice. I used a knife to chop them up some and them used the tongs to squish them in the pan.

I sauteed the chicken tenderloins in a little olive oil.

I added the mushrooms and let cook a few minutes more.

I added the tomatoes.

I added a spoon full of minced garlic.

I tore up a few fresh basil leaves.

It simmered while the water cooked to a boil and the noodles cooked. Then we poured some over penne pasta and mangia! This was sooooo good! Don’t you want some?!

Here’s how you can win your own $50 Dominick’s gift card.  Tweet your favorite international ingredient, using the #DominicksIntl hashtag and mention @Dominicks and @SusieKline! Tweet before Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at 5pm CST to be eligible!

This is a sponsored post, written by me on behalf of Beautiful Beasties. All opinions are 100% mine.

Pets are wonderful companions, but are so very difficult to photograph well. Luckily, Jamie Pflughoeft has written Beautiful Beasties: A Creative Guide to Modern Pet Photography to help us out!

Not only is the book filled with great tips on capturing our furry friends’ personalities on film, there are also great photos illustrating the techniques. I could spend hours just checking out the images!

Pflughoeft does a nice job covering photography in general. She has chapters on equipment (did you know you can rent lenses before you invest the money in buying them?!) and photography basics. I found the photography basics extremely helpful. I can never read information about ISO and aperture enough! Her writing style is low key and direct, so taking in the information is quite easy.

There is a chapter on composition, which is something I also cannot read often enough. Why do I always forget the rule of thirds?!

Beautiful Beasties goes in to great detail about the perils and joys of working with animals. The end of the book offers advice about starting your own pet photography business. But it is so much more than that if you are the owner of an animal. This book offers a way to capture our fur babies in the best way possible.

About the author (taken from the back cover)

Jamie Pflughoeft became addicted to photographing pets while studying animal behavior in college and working as a dog-walker and pet-sitter. She started Cowbelly Pet Photography in 2003, and today she serves commercial, editorial, and private clients as well as teaching photographers around the world about the exciting field of pet photography. Jamie also runs the Beautiful Beasties Network, an online community for pet photographers.

Would you like a chance to win a copy of this book for your very own? Leave a comment below before 5pm Sunday, September 30, 2012, answering one (or both!) of these questions:

  • What is your biggest challenge when photographing your pets?
  • What would you most like to learn from this book?

The giveaway is open to residents of the United States and Canada only. A winner will be announced Monday, October 1, 2012, and will be drawn using random.org.

Good luck!

This is a sponsored post written by me for AVEENO®. All opinions are 100% mine.

Rachelle Roper of Feed the Need Garden

AVEENO® just announced the THIRD winner of their Be An Active Natural™ Fund: Rachelle Roper of Belleview, FL. and her organization, Feed The Need Garden, will receive the $10,000 grant as a reward for the incredible work she does! And you have a chance to win a set of gardening tools and seeds to plant some of the Active Naturals ingredients in your own garden! (Details on entering are below.)

AVEENO®, best known for its ACTIVE NATURALS® ingredients, launched the BE AN ACTIVE NATURAL™ Fund to award individuals and organizations that create positive changes in their communities.  Eight $10,000 grants are being awarded throughout 2012 to consumers whose work impacts the lives of others through one of these three categories:

  • Inspiring others to see their natural and inner beauty
  • Educating about the values of an active and healthy lifestyle
  • Preserving, restoring and improving the local environment

Rachelle truly is an Active Natural. After learning all there is to know about gardening and producing her own source of food while growing up, she saw the need to share the insight and knowledge she acquired to others in her community during the economic downturn. From there, Feed the Need Garden was born. This non-profit’s mission is “to end hunger locally by teaching those in need how to grow and preserve their own food.”

You could win this! Comment to enter!

Rachelle organizes local seminars where she educates those wanting to learn her craft. In addition, Rachelle has donated a plot of her very own land to create what she calls “the teaching garden,” where she invites locals to learn best practices first hand. This grant will allow the Feed the Need Garden to continue to expand, allowing Rachelle to educate more people allowing her to continue her non-profit’s mission.

I am thrilled for Rachelle, but it doesn’t end there! AVEENO® will be rewarding one philanthropic organization every month until December! The next two Be An Active Natural™ Fund semi-finalists will be up on August 13.

Please visit the AVEENO® Facebook page to like AVEENO® and click the Be An Active Natural tab to vote or enter!

How can you win the garden tools and seeds giveaway? By commenting on this post! Share anything about gardening below and you’re entered. A winner will be drawn on Monday, August 13, 2012 at 5pm CST. The giveaway is open to United States residents only.
