Blog Gang: Vacation

My first thought when I hear the word “vacation” is the song by the Go Gos. I know, stuck in the 80s…guilty! I blame Sirius radio!

I’m not a big vacation person. With my OCD, it’s sometimes hard enough to get to the store, much less for a several-day trip! Plus, other than trips to see family, I haven’t been on many vacations during my adult life.

My first was my honeymoon. Jim and I went to Cozumel, which I quickly declared my favorite place on Earth. It sounds completely bizarre, but I never felt so comfortable as I did by the ocean. It’s a funny state of mind to be in for a landlocked resident of Illinois. Sorry, but Lake Michigan just doesn’t bring about the same feelings of contentment.

I love the smell and the noise of the ocean. I love the water and the sand. I love getting into the water and seeing the fish and the shells.

When I dream of vacations now, I dream of going somewhere tropical. Some people love sight seeing in Europe or visiting places in the States. I just want to go to the ocean. Palm trees are an added bonus, but I don’t rule out New England. Are there palm trees in Washington and Oregon? Because I’ll go there too.

A great vacation would be the Rick Springfield Cruise. Can you imagine? Stuck on a ship in the middle of the ocean with Rick Springfield? Me and Rick…and Jim and a thousand screaming middle aged women. Maybe I’d finally get to have a conversation with him!

I’ve considered doing a family cruise vacation. But thoughts of Aaron flying overboard at some point have put an end to that.

Vacations are nice to dream about…Rick and I are having a great discussion while sitting in deck chairs and sipping margaritas.

Heck, maybe we should just have a Motherhoot cruise. Wanna come along?!

  1. I love being at the beach. Luckily, I live less than an hour from the Pacific so I can go anytime I want (not that I actually do go anytime I want). My dream is to have a cottage on the beach where I can listen to the crashing waves and smell the salt water all day long.

    • Carolyn, I wonder if I would go to the beach every day if I lived near one?! I love the idea of a seaside cottage! Nothing big…but with a porch/deck.

      Ahhh, bliss!
