Friday Five: Things Seen On The Web This Week

friday fiveThings I came across on the web this week. Some will make you want to rip your hair out…

1. Ilyse Hogue on The Daily Show. Men get Viagra, Cialis, and penis pumps paid for by insurance. There are those who don’t want women to have birth control paid for by insurance, even though 58% of them use it for other medical reasons. This clip is hilarious… [source]

2. I’ve been saying it for years, let them take a few steps backward with abortion rights and watch women’s rights fall away. It’s happening in Louisiana, where there is a bill on the table to make doctor’s record prescriptions of the morning-after pill as abortions. And making doctors who “perform” five or more “abortions” register as “abortion providers.” Except the morning-after bill is not an abortion pill, it is a hormonal pill that prevents a pregnancy from even happening. Oh, and these same people want the names of the women getting the morning-after pill. Just in case they need to leak it somewhere? [source]

3. The Mighty Girl Facebook page is a must-like for everyone. I’ve shared so much stuff from them this week that I could share a hundred links here. These are the girls our daughters need to learn about. Girls who are out there doing, teaching, and being human beings who are more than what they look like, who they are dating, and what they can do with their bodies. It’s eye-opening and a breath of fresh air. Check them out and add them to your feed. You can thank me later. [source]

4. My opinion of Chris Christie dropped another notch this week. Turns out he took pieces of the buildings destroyed on 9/11 and gave them to political cronies as…souvenirs. I don’t know why this bothers me so much. Literally, my stomach turns every time I think about it. It’s so wrong…so disrespectful. I think about the people who died there…their families…and wonder how Christie and his cronies could be so crass. I know, I know, why should I expect politicians to have souls and all that…but they should have human decency. They should have standards. They shouldn’t be handing out pieces of our country’s greatest terror disaster as tokens of political affection. Don’t get me wrong, the people who accepted the tokens are just as gross as Christie himself. Yet, people will vote for him…and the Conservative Right will embrace him as their savior. Talk about not having a soul… [source]

5. Just a reminder for all you fabulous people…

beauty comes in all sizes
