Yes, Janet Evanovich does it again, bringing back Stephanie Plum and the Gang for a riotous romp in Notorious Nineteen. Once again I was hesitant…but my fears that Stephanie would lose her edge were completely unfounded.
In Notorious Nineteen…
Stephanie needs money after chasing down low-return bonds for Cousin Vinny. She needs a big score with some big cash. When Geoffrey Cubbin goes missing, Stephanie knows this is the one she needs. Cubbin had been arrested for stealing money from the assisted living facility where he worked. Now he’s missing from the hospital after needing an emergency appendectomy. Lots of people want him dead: mostly the elderly residents of the facility! But no one knows how he got out of the hospital. The night nurses have no idea. There’s no activity on the security cameras.
Stephanie turns to Joe Morelli for some help with this situation. But she also needs to help Ranger figure out who’s trying to kill him and other members of his Army Ranger unit. There have been threats and everything seems to be coming to a head at one of the ranger’s wedding. Going undercover as a bridesmaid and as Ranger’s date means Stephanie has lots of opportunity to get into some sticky situations.
I loved this book and laughed out loud as I read it. Every character is in perfect form and the action flies. My only complaint: I can’t stop seeing the actors from One for The Money in my head as I read. So distracting!
Yay! Janet Evanovich wrote another Lizzy and Diesel book, Wicked Business.
This time the hot duo is…
…after the Luxuria Stone, which might be infused with lust or true love. After professor Gilbert Reedy is thrown from his balcony, Diesel grabs Lizzy to help with the investigation. When it is discovered that the dead man has a hand print burnt into his skin, they know they are onto something hot because Wulf and his minion, Hatchet, are also on the trail. Lizzy reluctantly puts away the cupcakes she makes as the pastry chef for a bakery in Salem, Massachusetts, and joins Diesel in the search for the Luxuria Stone. With help from Glo (the wanna-be) wizard and Carl (the monkey with personality), they chase down clues and solve riddles. But who will end up with the Luxuria Stone?
My only complaint about Janet Evanovich is that she is not prolific enough. Couldn’t she get a little James Patterson in her and put a Stephanie Plum or Lizzy & Diesel novel out every few months?! Pretty please?
This time Diesel was quite dreamy for me because I keep picturing him as Thor (aka Chris Hemsworth). I’m not complaining, except I didn’t want Diesel to go away!
As you can tell, I loved the book and I can’t wait for the next one! I’ve got to go back and re-read all her other books…darn!
Are you in the mood for a kooky romance with a side of sweetness? Then Love in A Nutshell is the perfect read! Janet Evanovich has paired up with Dorien Kelly to tell you a tale that will make you smile and feel all warm and fuzzy!
Here’s the plot in a…well, a nutshell!
Kate Appleton is jobless and blames Matt Culhane and his skunky beer. So she storms into his brewery/restaurant and demands a job. Kate’s on a downward spiral and refuses to go any lower: divorced, dog-less, and fired from her last two jobs, she is desperate. Matt is desperate too. Someone is sabotaging his business and he doesn’t know who. He hires Kate with the agreement he will pay her a hefty bonus if she can figure out who is behind the sabotage. Kate needs to bonus to keep her parent’s summer home to turn into a bed & breakfast.
No one does kooky romances like Janet Evanovich (and Jennifer Crusie, I have to add her to the list!), and, apparently, Dorien Kelly! Behind the kookiness, however, is a romance just bubbling to be indulged in. You read while cheering Kate and Matt on, hoping they get past all the drama and end up together.
I won’t give anything away, you’ll have to read this for yourself. But I don’t think you’ll be sorry!
I spent a lovely afternoon with Stephanie Plum and the gang. Janet Evanovich once again scores with the latest: Explosive Eighteen.
Evanovich left us hanging at the end of Smokin’ Seventeen, when she flew off to Hawaii. Did she go with Joe or Ranger? Well, she gets off the plane back in New Jersey at the start of Explosive Eighteen alone, so we still don’t know.
I’ll let Stephanie tell you the story of Hawaii herself–it’s a humdinger! She’s too busy chasing down her new captures. One lives in his car and is hard to find. Another keeps stealing her car.
Of course the best one she’s after is Joyce Barnhardt, her nemesis! Joyce disappeared after being accused of stealing a necklace at a local jewelers. That doesn’t sound right to Stephanie, because Joyce doesn’t need to steal a necklace. She just has her latest husband buy her whatever she wants. When Joyce’s accuser ends up dead and Joyce’s belonging are found in a recently compacted car at the junk yard, Stephanie revs her search for Joyce into high gear.
Meanwhile, she’s also dodging the FBI, fake FBI agents, and others all looking for property belonging to Stephanie’s seatmate on the flight back from Hawaii. Does she have it? What does it all mean?
Lulu’s as wacky as ever (in a good way!). Joe and Ranger are as hot as always.
Be prepared for out-loud laughter that will make your housemates roll their eyes every time!
OK, tell me…who do you want: Joe or Ranger?!
