February 29…Leap Day…a whole extra day of the year. What did you do with it?
In the life I lead in my fantasies I was prepared to be wildly impulsive and frivolous. Maybe I’d hop a train for the city. Wander through the Art Institute. Sketch a few fellow wanderers. Shoot some grand photos of the architecture and the people. All while adjusting my jaunty beret and flinging my gorgeous hand woven scarf to and fro. I could people watch at a Starbucks, while sipping some frothy expensive coffee drink without wrinkling my nose.
What did I really do?
I got Aaron off to school and grabbed a few more minutes of sleep. Shlepped myself to my exercise for beginniners class where I sweat like a horse. I enjoyed the warm breeze, rolled down the turbo mini van windows, and drove to McDonald’s afterwards for my iced tea reward. As I drove, I pondered whether or not the head ache I got while doing pilates-type ab work meant that I had an aneurysm and was preparing to stroke out.
Got home and ate yogurt while answering email. Also ate some rice chex because I was still hungry. Added more rice chex to the mug (I use a big coffee mug to eat cereal) because there was milk left over. Finished email, pondered all the Leap Day sales.
Found out Davy Jones died. Felt sad and old. Remembered how he took Marsha Brady to prom. Remembered how Rick Springfield took me to prom. Then went upstairs.
In honor of the day and doing something different. I cleaned something. I took everything off a book case, dusted the books and shelves. Sprayed some furniture polish around (it makes everything smell soooo good!). Paged through my high school year book. Hey, I was cute! Laughed hysterically over Brian D’s yearbook quote–he went through a few cars in rapid succession! Held my masters thesis in my hands, wondering if I had the guts to read it. Shelved it and will deal with that another day.
Sat on the bed, vowing not to take a nap. Moaning and groaning silently because I was sweaty and exhausted. Turned on the TV and found a Lifetime movie to watch. Saw there was a nun film fest on AMC, but not in the mood for The Singing Nun nor Audrey Hepburn as a nun. Showered quickly before Aaron got home.
Then argued with Aaron. Played on Ravelry. Oohed and ahhhed over Kelly’s latest acquisition and seriously considered raising Angora bunnies to help her. Dogs, cats, bunnies…
And that’s how this wonderful day of being wild and crazy finds me writing this blog post, counting the minutes before I can go to bed!
What did you do?!
