Are you ready for the summer?!

If you live in or near Chicago, you know that summer means the Taste of Chicago to many people. Where else can you get great food and great music all in one place? This year is extra special because you can also take care of your family at the same time you’re having fun! Transitions Optical, in cooperation with Visionworks, is offering free vision screenings for your and your family!

The Taste of Chicago runs July 11 to the 15th this year, and is open 11am until 9pm each day. The event takes place in Grant Park. The Taste of Chicago showcases the best restaurants in town and the best music. This year Jennifer Hudson, Death Cab for Cutie, and many other performers will appear.

Admission to the Taste is free, but you must purchase tickets for food. The number of tickets required for food ranges from 2-3 for a small sample to 9-10 for a large serving. Tickets are sold in packages of 12 for $8. They can be purchased before the event at all Dominick’s store in Illinois with a Fresh Values card for $7 per strip of 12 tickets. After July 10th, you can continue purchasing at Dominick’s for $8 a strip of 12, as long as supplies last.

While you’re taking in the gorgeous sights of the City of Chicago, take a moment to think about your eyes that allow you to see them. Without healthy eye sight, you couldn’t see the incredible skyline or the sparkling lake so big it seems to be the size of an ocean. You would miss the shore line with the boats docked or Navy Pier–who doesn’t want to see that giant ferris wheel?!

Take advantage of the opportunity being offered by Transitions Lenses and Visionworks, and get your vision checked. Bring the family to the Transitions Optical, Visionworks booth for an eye exam and the fun photo kiosk. Regular vision exams ensure the health and eye safety of every member of your family! Check out the Sight of the Day photo contest. Each photo entered adds another 25 cents to the Optometry Giving Sight fund.

In addition to checking your family’s eye health, you can also take the  Family Eye Promise. Each promise made during 2012 means another book is donated to Bess the Book Bus, bringing books and literacy to underprivileged children.

Here in KlineLand, we are sticklers for vision health. Because I take a medication that can cause eye damage, I get my eyes examined every six months. I’ve been wearing Transitions Lenses since I began wearing my glasses full time. No fumbling with sunglasses or clip ons for me! Jim also wears glasses with Transition Lenses and has for years.

This year Aaron started wearing glasses. He fought us for over a year about wearing them regularly, but knew he was beat when the school eye exams showed he needed vision correction. He finally gave in when I pointed out that the vision experts said he needed glasses and they had to know more than he does! After six months of regular wear, he now appreciates how much clearer his vision is!

I hope you can take care of some serious family business while enjoying the city of Chicago!
